When to change or sharpen your mower blade?

Updated: May 1, 2024

Do you see a white haze on your lawn?

Is your grass looking jagged and torn?

That is how to know your blade is dull blade.

  1. Prepare the Mower: Turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent the mower from starting.

  2. Secure the Blade: Use a block of wood to secure the blade in place. This will prevent it from moving while you're loosening the bolt.

  3. Locate the Blade Bolt: The blade bolt is usually located in the center of the blade where it attaches to the mower deck. Use a impact drill to loosen the bolt by turning it counterclockwise.

  4. Remove the Blade: Once the bolt is loosened, remove it along with any washers and hardware, hold onto the mower blade.

  5. Look at the Blade: Check the blade for any signs of dents, wear, or dullness. If needed sharpen or replace the blade before reinstalling it.

  6. Dispose of Old Blades Properly: To get rid of old mower blades just text me. We Cobra Lawn care gets rid of mower blades.

  7. Reconnect Spark Plug Wire: Once the blade is on the mower, reconnect the spark plug wire before using the mower again.
